Quit vaping abruptly: going cold turkey without the crash
Quitting abruptly — picking a day and stopping completely — works well for many people, mostly because it is simple: one rule, no negotiations. The crash people fear is usually not one big wall. It is a week of predictable waves. Here is how to get through them.
The first 72 hours
Cravings come most often in the first three days, then space out. Sleep may wobble, focus may dip, appetite may rise. This is your brain recalibrating, not a sign something is wrong. If symptoms feel severe — especially if you are pregnant, on medication, or have health conditions — talk to a doctor rather than white-knuckling it.
Pre-commit your danger zones
Decide before the moment, not during it. The device stays home on nights out. Coffee moves to a different spot. The car gets a podcast and a water bottle. Mid-craving decisions always lose; sober-in-advance decisions usually win.
Run the five minutes, not the forever
Never negotiate “never again” mid-craving — that is too big to hold. Negotiate five minutes: breathe slow, drink cold water, step outside, check back. Cravings fade on a timer whether you use or not. You just have to outlast the timer.
Alcohol deserves its own plan
Real talk: alcohol is where most streaks die, because it dismantles exactly the system you are relying on. If you drink in the first two weeks, decide the plan sober, tell one person there, and alternate water. Or skip the nights out until the streak has legs.
Count clean days, not just the streak
If you slip on day 9, you still banked 8 clean days. That counts. Log the trigger, restart the count, and you know more than yesterday.
